Veteran's Day

Today Riverview Elementary had a special ceremony to honor Waushara County's veterans. 1st grade students recited a poem for the veterans and made special Veteran's Day hats. To prepare for the ceremony, we practiced reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in a respectful way and talked about the importance of honoring our veterans. We read a story about the military and the sacrifices they make for our country. Thank you veterans!

Candy Tower Project

Your child participated in what we call a "STEM" activity. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM projects allow students to explore all four of these subjects in an activity focused on a real-world situation. In October's STEM activity, your child worked with a small group of classmates to build the tallest candy tower possible with marshmallows, candy corn, and toothpicks. It was a fun way to practice leadership skills, problem solving skills, perseverance, and working as a team.

Homecoming Day & Leaf Science Project

Hello everyone! On Homecoming Day, we were all decked out in our hornet gear and excited to celebrate our school! We watched the high school band and senior athletes march down our hallway and had a pep rally for them in the gym. After the pep rally, we did a series of science activities that allowed the students to answer the question, "Why do leaves change color?" We read a book, went on a "leaf walk", and created videos on ipads sharing what we learned about the life cycle of a tree. Here are some pictures from our exciting day!

September 26-30 Newsletter

Hello Families! I hope you are having a great start to the fall season. Homecoming is right around the corner. (It's next week already!) Here is a sneak peek of the dress up days:

Monday (Oct. 3) - Disney Day (dress as your favorite character)
Tuesday (Oct. 4) - Hawaiian/Island Day (dress as if you are going to a warm, tropical place)
Wednesday (Oct. 5) - Movie or Rock Star Day (dress as your favorite movie or rock star)
Thursday (Oct. 6) - Class Color Day (1st grade is green)
Friday (Oct. 7) - Spirit Day (dress in orange and black!)

Feel free to get creative with the dress up days, but keep in mind that the students will still be going out for recess and participating in normal classes and activities. Your child might want to avoid wearing anything that would be uncomfortable to wear during normal daily activities like recess and gym. Happy outfit planning! :)

Snack Time Routine

For snack time this year, we will have a short snack break in the afternoon each day. It is up to you as the parent/guardian to decide if you would like to send a snack with your child to school. If you feel your child will want or need a snack in the afternoon, please send a small healthy snack with your child each day. Some examples may be crackers in a ziploc bag, fruit snacks, an apple, granola bar, etc.

Your child may also bring a water bottle to class that will stay at our table spots during the day. On Friday, all of the water bottles are sent home to be washed and returned on Monday.
